Coreshell is an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) founded in June 2006 in Cyprus. The start-up company currently develops an online accounting solution that will be delivered through the Software-as-a-Service (SAAS) Business Model.

CoreShell was already at a mature stage of development in its endeavor in creating a SAAS based accounting application. This project was running severely behind schedule due to staff and skill unavailability in Cyprus .

IWD provided the expertise and resources needed by deploying a business analyst, a senior .NET engineer and an additional backup programmer.

 
The Need  

It needed a strong software partner who could develop a Reporting module that could seamlessly integrate with other functional modules of the application that they were developing.

The company was facing problems such as lack of skilled software engineers and also needed additional expertise in the areas of reporting and business analysis.

 

The Challenge and the Process adopted  

The solution for the web reports module was a reporting engine that was designed, coded, tested through Microsoft SQL reporting services and then was used as a tool to develop the required reports.

Knowledge transfer to IWD was not easy due to lack of documentation of the current project which made it difficult and slow, since existing code reviews was carried out often.

Business analysis was employed to extract and clarify in detail the requirements and specifications of the project when needed. Lack of documentation.

Weekly conference calls and review meetings were held among key members of the team. Here the progress was measured and checks were put in place to overcome anomalies and also plan for the next week.

Daily reports were sent collating the day's work; this provided a micro level report to the technical manager of CoreShell. The technical manager then would issue clarification and/or comment on the reports.

The documentation served as not just an audit checklist but also enabled IWD and CoreShell to quickly get to speed in exchanging information in the reports development.
 
   
The Results  

CoreShell was able to scale their application and were able to move ahead in planning their go-to-market strategy.

Having plagued by resource problems locally, the engagement with IWD allowed them to reduce business risk by a higher quality of analysis and programming thus helping then to focus on their core business.

The offshore hiring model helped them reduce overall costs which wouldn't have been possible if a local team had been deployed.

Also the additional assets of business analysis, unit testing and outsourcing process management gave them leeway to plan and scale their application before taking it to end-user.

This successful relationship also was instrumental in CoreShell being able to find a strong IT partner in IWD. They are discussing the possibility of outsourcing their complete development as the application is being readied for roll-out.
